Well, since my old blog The Crab Chronicles was shut down -- along with the entire platform -- I decided to start a new blog here on Blogger. Buckle up, it may be a bumpy ride!
I started blogging in 2005 when I had adopted a little girl from a Russian orphanage and instead of trying to respond to umpteen emails a day I decided to blog and send everyone a link and a password. When I adopted my son in 2007 I decided to make the blog public.
Over the years, my kids have grown up. My blog became less about adoption and more about life, and ideas that interested me. I tried to steer clear of controversial topics, mostly.
I know blogging is not really "on trend" the way it was when I started doing it in 2005, but I don't care. Trends come and go.
If you've been reading my blogs for a while, you haven't seen anything from me in a few weeks, but I will be glad to catch you up, as the Brits say.
I have been a paralegal and writer since 1985 when I finished paralegal school. Yes, I understand babies born that year probably now have GRAY HAIR and are well into their mid-life crises by now and whoop-de-doo. If I had started having kids back then I'd undoubtedly be a grandmother now. (A gray-haired, wrinkled, divorced, Hot Mess Memaw that would take great delight in embarrassing my grands...)
I love to write and after getting my MA in Creative Writing in 1990 I wanted to make my living that way but I couldn't find writing jobs. Since then I've written a lot of magazine articles, a number of novels, several memoirs, a children's book, a book about the legal profession, and a cookbook. You can see all my books available on Amazon on this, my author page.
After years of raising kids and taking care of my mom, my life took a huge turn in 2020. My mom died, at age 86. I had become pretty worn out, taking care of her, but she was my best friend and I still miss her. I published a book of her blogs called Singing to the Cows, and I love to occasionally re-read it because I can hear her voice then.
In 2021 I had to sell my house I loved and move into an apartment. That was supposed to be a temporary thing but here I am, still, 4 years later. After not working regularly while being a caretaker, I spent 2021-2024 jobhunting, and I took several jobs that weren't a good fit. Housing prices, meanwhile, have skyrocketed, so until I can save up for a down payment, I stay here. It's a nice complex. I just wish I could have a yard again.
I now work 30-40 hours a week, from home, as a paralegal. I like the firm and the cases. I like working in my bathrobe! It's a win-win. I am trying to eat healthfully, and I am embarked on a fitness and weight loss journey that will [hopefully] result in great success. In recent years I became entirely too sedentery and now I have to fix all the results of that -- a daunting task.
My daughter lives in South Carolina with a boyfriend, and I rarely see or hear from her, sadly. We have some major differences of opinion, unfortunately. I wish her well, though, and I pray for her daily.
My son Michael got out of a bad relationship a couple of years ago and moved in with me. I love having him here. He returned to college and is studying to be a Radiology Tech. After years of partying way too much, he has been fully sober for nearly three years, and has become a health fanatic. He goes to the gym daily, eats a vegetarian diet, and loves hiking, climbing, and going to museums. About six months ago he adopted a dog, Megan, and she keeps him busy.
Stay tuned, there will be more to come!

Glad you are back in business.
